- Priority given for candidates First Generation to attend college.

- Candidates to provide an essay describing the need and importance of civics engagement at the secondary education level.

About the Sponsor
The scholarship is supported by Family and Friends of Allen Haynes, one time principal at Inglemoor (11 years) and later Bothell (10 years) high schools. He was a native of Bothell and a Bothell High School graduate of 1963. He was noted for being an influential advocate in the field of education. He held degrees in English Education and in Math from Washington State University. Allen obtained his Masters in Education from the University of Washington. He left an envious legacy of education and involvement in his community. Allen led from example and led by example. His father Lowell Haynes was one of eight leaders who organized the Scholarship Foundation of Northshore in 1984 and Al served as a Foundation trustee from 1986 until his death in 2023. He was instrumental in establishing and funding scholarships for his brother Steve, for the Kiwanis Club of Northshore, and in recognition of his grandfather Pop Keeney. In 2010, Al was elected to the Northshore School District Wall of Honor.
